2023 Match L&RLCGA v SLRGC at Beedles Lake GC

The annual match took place on Thursday 24th August at Beedles Lake Golf Club. This match is very popular with both the ladies and the men. This year there were 55 ladies who wanted to play in this match unfortunately we can only field 24 ladies in this pairs match play event. Thank you to everyone who played.

Many thanks to Lynda Bramley for organising the day and for working with Gerry McIntyre, Secretary for SLRGC to calculate the handicaps and shots received.

A nearest the pin for the ladies and men on the 3rd was sponsored by Lynda & Glyn Bramley and John Rawlings sponsored a ladies and men nearest the pin in 2 shots on the 12th hole. Thank you for your prizes. The 3rd was won by Pam Hall & Glyn Bramley. The 12th by Andena Porter and Eric Cooper. Congratulations to all.

The game was played in good spirit with plenty of banter and I’m delighted to say the trophy was won by The Ladies, the 3rd time this has happened since 2008. Well done Julia on your team selection.

From the bacon rolls & coffee to the excellent meal served to us at Beedles Lake I would like to say a huge thank you for hosting us.

2023 Inter-County Shield

L&RLCGA hosted the inaugural Inter-County Shield, introduced to celebrate, and mark the 50th anniversary of the Association.

12 Players from Leicestershire, Northamptonshire & Nottinghamshire played a singles stableford, with 10 of the 12 scores counting to determine who would win the Shield. Unfortunately, Derbyshire were unable to attend this year.

Much fun ensued with all enjoying the format and hospitality of Beedles Lake.

Leicestershire won with 329 points followed by Nottinghamshire, 304 points & Northants, 288 points.

36 Ladies enjoyed a wonderful meal after the match and much banter and laughter could be heard.

I am pleased to say that the unanimous decision was that the Trophy event will continue each year. The format will remain the same, future venue to be decided at committee.

2023 Lady Captains' and Vets AM-AM at Birstall GC

On Wednesday 9th August the L&R Vets welcomed the Lady Captains to Birstall Golf Club for our annual AM-AM.

The Lady Captain of Birstall, Sandra Clarke, welcomed us all and hoped that everyone enjoyed the day.

Birstall looked resplendent in the sunshine, the greens staff had done an excellent job getting it to look so well. The ladies commented that the course did play long.

The winners with 81 points were:

Anne Bancroft, Avis Webb, Karen Thompson & Bridget Jenkins, who each received a bottle of wine curtesy of the vets.

Runners up with 79 points were:

Carol Hinks, Joyce Calow, Pauline Vickers, and Bubbles Emmett

Thanks to Birstall for hosting the day and to Julia Dunkley, Vice President, for arranging our team.

Thanks also to Jan Dorn, the Vets captain for arranging the day.

2023 Match v Northamptonshire at Glen Gorse GC

L&RLCGA played against Northamptonshire ladies at Glen Gorse golf club on Wednesday 12th July 2023. The Lady Captain, was there and offered everyone a warm welcome.

The course was in excellent condition, but some found it hard to find the hole, despite 4 ladies making birdies and in Kate Elliott’s case more than one.

The meal was also excellent and shielded us all from the rain as thankfully it held off until we were all in.

President Pam Hall, thanked all the ladies who stepped in to replace the injured.

Leicestershire won 5/3

2023 Match v Derbyshire at Ormonde Fields GC

Leicestershire visited Ormonde Fields Golf Course in Derbyshire. Not a course many were familiar with, and typically hilly for the county.

Unfortunately, Derbyshire were only able to field 13 players, so one lady had to play on her own, but with full handicap. A lovely course, albeit tough, good humour prevailed, and all the ladies enjoyed the day. My team were treated to a fly by of the Red Arrows on the 17th tee, very spectacular.

The result was a friendly half
