Match v SLRGC September 2019

Once again we are very grateful to Beedles Lake for allowing us to play this match. The rules this year were; yellow tees for the gentlemen and red for the ladies who were given 3 course equalisation shots, before applying the 90% handicap allocation and the match was played off the ladies stroke index.

Although once again the men won most of the matches, these were very close with all but two matches finishing on 17th or 18th holes. The result was 3 to the ladies and 9 to the men. Many thanks were sent to the ladies who stepped in to play at the last minute.

There was a choice of menu of Seared Chicken in a Mushroom Sauce, Medallions of Pork served in a Pepper Sauce or Mediterranean Vegetable Wellington, all served with Roast Potatoes & Seasonal Vegetables. Desserts were Warm Chocolate Brownie & Ice Cream or Tropical Fruit Tartlet & Ice Cream. Everyone enjoyed their meal in very good company with spectacular views of the sun setting over the lake.

Thank you again to everyone who played.

Match v Northamptonshire 12th July 2019

This course Kettering was a first for most of the Leicestershire Ladies being very close to the A14 it was accessed by driving through a new housing estate. Luckily the ladies we played against knew the course as we would definitely have struggled to find the next tee. Also one par 3 we had to play over a very high hedge which completely blocked sight of the green.

The match was played in a very friendly atmosphere but unfortunately lost by Leicestershire 6½ to 1½. At one point during the match the wet gear came out but luckily not for long.

The meal was very welcome as most ladies had expected to be able to purchase a sandwich prior to commencement of play.

Match v L&R Vets 11th July 2019

This year Market Harborough GC kindly allowed us to host this fixture which is played as an AMAM and is for ladies with higher handicaps played with the Leicestershire & Rutland County Vets.

The course although rather hilly offers superb views of the countryside and looked in excellent condition. Due to heavy rain earlier in the week the teams played off full handicap, one County Vet and one Lady Captain to score on each hole. Luck was again with as the ladies played in dry warm conditions. The meal afterwards was a fish pie followed by lemon posset, deserts being a speciality of the chef this was delicious.

The scores were close. In 1st place Jane Linsley, Glen Gorse and Ann Parkin Cosby for Captains and Chris Brown, Ullesthorpe and Anne Freeman, Rothley Park for the Vets with 78 points, each received a bottle of wine.

In 2nd place Nicki Clarke, Forest Hill and Sally Hollis, Lutterworth for Captains and Myra Burrows, Market Harborough and Jacqueline Latham, Kibworth for the Vets with 77 points, each received a box of chocolates.

Match v Derbyshire 19th June 2019

The match against Derbyshire Past Captains was played at Lingdale Golf Club on a warm and sunny day. Lingdale made us very welcome. The course as always was a pleasure to play and enjoyed by both home and away players.

The tasty meal completed an excellent day. The matches were played in a very friendly atmosphere and the score was "all square" after some very close games.

Match v Nottinghamshire 16th May 2019

The match against Nottinghamshire was played on Thursday 16th May at Wollaton Park. The overall score did not reflect how tight matches were, the final result being 6½ – 1½ to Nottinghamshire with matches finishing on either the 17th or 18th. The match was played in a very friendly atmosphere on a mostly warm and sunny day, although there was the occasional cold wind blowing.

The course as always was a pleasure to play with its magnificent views, An Egyptian goose was proudly showing of her 5 goslings and the deer were roaming in the background.

The President Glenda Yeldham, sends her thanks to all the ladies who played.
