2021 Captain and Vice-Captain Event at Hinckley GC

This event is organised for the incumbent Lady Captain to bring their Vice-Captain along to meet their peers in a social environment before they take up office. If the Lady Captain is not available then another member of the Association is welcome to accompany the Vice-Captain to this event.

The day is organised with tea or coffee on arrival before playing 9 holes of golf followed by lunch at the host golf club. The representatives from each club are paired into a team of four to play in a 9-hole AM AM. Tee times and teams were advised in advance.

This year twenty-four ladies from twelve clubs enjoyed a sunny nine holes at Hinckley Golf Club.

The winners of the 9-hole AM AM for 2021 were:
Sue Turton and Janet Hartley-Byng from Ullesthorpe with Chris Hyde and Joyce Calow from Birstall with 43 points.

Jacket potatoes on Hinckley’s new patio allowed socialising time for ladies to share ideas on captaincy and to get to know new faces.
A welcome and information on what we as an Association offer to members was given by President Helen and merchandising products were available for ladies to buy or order.

Thank you to Hinckley Golf Club for making us so welcome and to those ladies who attended. We hope you will all join us next year for our events.

2021 Autumn Meeting at Market Harborough GC

Our Autumn Meeting 4BBB for the Renee Shipman Trophy was held on 6th September at Market Harborough Golf Club on a hot late summer’s day.

Umbrellas for shade and plenty of liquids were the order of the day. We also had to contend with bullocks on the 9th green, a lone swan waddling across the first fairway as we were starting and a red kite riding a thermal over the 4th green.  The swan seemed very confident that it wouldn’t get hit! The joys of country life!

A good score of 43 by Annette O’Meara and Di Thornton of Charnwood Forest GC secured 1st place and the Renee Shipman Trophy

Other placings were

2nd Julia Dunkley & Ruth Palmer of Kibworth with 40 points (on count back)

3rd Julia Booth & Ann Martin of Charnwood Forest with 40 points (on count back)

4th Marian Overlunde & Sarah Bowler of Lingdale with 39 points

5th Julia Holley & Trish Formoy of Kibworth with 38 points

As there were three sets of winners in attendance at the end of the day it was decided to make a presentation to those present. The other prizes will be posted and the trophy will be presented to the winners at a later date.

Many thanks to Market Harborough Golf Club for making us so welcome and to the committee for their hard work in making the day run smoothly.

Thank you to all the ladies who supported this event in what has been another very difficult year. It was a pleasure to see you all.

Annual Match L&RLCGA v SLRGC at Beedles Lake GC

The annual match versus SLRGC was held as usual at Beedles Lake Golf Club on 25th August, where twenty-four ladies and twenty-four men met for coffee and a bacon roll prior to venturing onto the course for pairs match play. The new World Handicapping System meant that to determine shots received, involved even more calculations than previous years. Thanks to Lynda Bramley for organising the event and her men's counterpart Gerry McIntyre for calculating the players' shots. Thanks also to Beedles Lake for serving up a delicious meal after play had concluded.

The matches were all played with a good atmosphere and enjoyable competitive matches. For only the second time in the match's history the Ladies were victorious eight to four, with seven wins and two halves. The last time was in 2013. It was a real privilege to lift the trophy on the team's behalf. Well done ladies!

2021 President's Day Held at Belton Park GC

Finally, we were able to host an event and what a pleasure it was. Fifty-six ladies from seventeen clubs met at Belton Park Golf Club one year on from our original booking. The committee were all involved with setting up for the day with everyone working towards the same goal to make it a good day out for all. The players enjoyed a tea or coffee with a bacon cob on arrival.

Many thanks to all those involved in running the event and to Belton Park for making us so welcome and hosting the day with efficiency and friendliness.

There was a two tee start with President Helen Buckingham seeing the players off from the first tee and immediate Past President Glenda Yeldham from the tenth tee. Glenda and Helen shared the day as Glenda had made the original booking for this venue but had missed out on hosting the event during 2020 due to the Coronavirus.

The AMAM, which was drawn from entered pairs to make a four, took place in dry, overcast weather and the challenging course played long, with fast greens. The players were watched by the deer which roam freely on the course.

The prize giving followed a delicious buffet (which was served to each table) and choice of dessert.

The three winning teams on the day were:

First Place and Winners of the President's Quaich's

Helena Woodward and Sandra Baum of Hinckley                             80 points

Sue Fletcher and Sally Hollis of Lutterworth

2nd Place

Elaine Wesley and Pat Sutton of Glen Gorse                                      79 points

Leona Harris of Cosby and Loraine Washington of Scraptoft

3rd Place

Kim Griffin and Christine Walker of Beedles Lake                              76 points

Bubbles Emmett and Liz Toney of Lutterworth

Thank you to the all the ladies who played at Belton Park and we hope that you enjoyed your day.

The abiding memory of the day was of happy smiling ladies enjoying each other’s company and being able to take part in an event within the Covid restrictions.

We hope that our plans for the rest of the season are also able to go ahead.
