2021 Match v Nottinghamshire at Longcliffe

Our first inter county match since 2019 was played at Longcliffe Golf Club.
There were still some covid restrictions in place, but they did not spoil our enjoyment of the day.
The weather was ideal, sunny but not too hot.
It was our first match using the World Handicapping System and once everyone’s shots were worked out we all took pleasure in playing on such a challenging and well kept course.
Longcliffe served up a tasty two course meal and the result of a friendly 4-4 draw was announced by the Nottinghamshire President.
Thank you to Longcliffe for making us so welcome and to their Lady Captain Sandra Roberts for her help on the day.

2020 Match v SLRGC

The match V SLRGC was the only match able to be played during 2020 due to the relaxing of restrictions within the clubhouse and social distancing rules and following the lifting of the lockdown in Leicester and  Leicestershire.  This was the only match played by both the Lady Captains and SLRGC in 2020.

The match was played on 26th August at Beedles Lake golf club, the day after heavy rain and high winds battered the UK as a result of storm Francis. The conditions were soft and there was some debris across the course although the grounds staff had managed to clear away quite a lot of the larger fallen branches from the course.

Everyone arrived in time to enjoy a pre-match bap of either bacon, sausage or vegetarian alternative with either tea or coffee.

A two-tee start was organised with the Presidents of both organisations leading the teams out from the 1st tee. The weather was warm and the team spirits high.

A two-course meal was served to teams as they came back into the clubhouse. The food was plentiful and very tasty.

The results were given out on the day with 5.5 games being won by the ladies and 6.5 games being won by the men. This was a close match won overall by SLRGC in 2020.

Our President Glenda Yeldham would like to thank all the ladies who played on the day and to the members and staff at Beedles Lake for the use of their course and facilities and for their hard work on the day.

2020 Match v L&R Vets

This annual match is arranged with the higher handicap golfers in mind.

Two lady Captains and two lady Vets play in each team in an AM AM competition format with one captain and one Vet to score on each hole. This friendly format is popular with participants and provides a fun day out for everyone.

The team selectors have to be quick to firm up their team as some players are members of both organisations.

The L&RVLGA organise the event one year and the L&RLCGA organise the event the following year. The host organisation also provides the prizes on the day.

Unfortunately, this event for 2020 was also cancelled due to the Coronavirus. The fixture has been rescheduled into July 2021 and will be held at Kirby Muxloe GC.

2020 County Matches

The matches scheduled to be played against Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire were all cancelled due to the Coronavirus. Although golf was being played albeit with social distancing being observed, it was not possible to socialise and enjoy a meal as clubhouses and catering facilities were out of use throughout this period.

The fixtures have all been rescheduled into 2021 at Longcliffe, Matlock and Cosby.

Meeting of Captains and Vice-Captains September 2019

30 Captains and Vice-Captains met at Charnwood Forest Golf Club for the 9 holes of golf and lunch. Two ladies unfortunately had to pull out the day before the event which enabled committee members Lyneve McLoughlin and Helen Buckingham to play and make up the 8th team.

The weather was not on our side as there was torrential rain which flooded the greens but due to excellent drainage it cleared extremely quickly. Despite this the ladies enjoyed the day. One lady’s club slipped from her hand and ended up in a tree and despite the help of the green keeper it had not been found by the time we left, however the lost club was retrieved at a later date.

The winners on the day were Rachel East and Leona Harris of Cosby paired with Cathryn Hoyland and Loraine Washington of Scraptoft who scored 36 points in very testing conditions.

The AGM paperwork was reviewed and distributed at the meeting.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the day.

Glenda thanked the staff and members of Charnwood Forest golf club who had made everyone feel so welcome. She also thanked the committee members for their support and also thanked all the ladies who had played in such good spirits despite the weather.
