Match L&RLCGA v SLRGC at Beedles Lake

The annual match took place on Thursday 24th August at Beedles Lake Golf Club. This match is very popular with both the ladies and the men. This year there were 55 ladies who wanted to play in this match unfortunately we can only field 24 ladies in this pairs match play event. Thank you to everyone who played.

Many thanks to Lynda Bramley for organising the day and for working with Gerry McIntyre, Secretary for SLRGC to calculate the handicaps and shots received.

A nearest the pin for the ladies and men on the 3rd was sponsored by Lynda & Glyn Bramley and John Rawlings sponsored a ladies and men nearest the pin in 2 shots on the 12th hole. Thank you for your prizes. The 3rd was won by Pam Hall & Glyn Bramley. The 12th by Andena Porter and Eric Cooper. Congratulations to all.

The game was played in good spirit with plenty of banter and I’m delighted to say the trophy was won by The Ladies, the 3rd time this has happened since 2008. Well done Julia on your team selection.

From the bacon rolls & coffee to the excellent meal served to us at Beedles Lake I would like to say a huge thank you for hosting us.

New Inter-County Shield Trophy Event

L&RLCGA hosted the inaugural Inter-County Shield, introduced to celebrate, and mark the 50th anniversary of the Association.

12 Players from Leicestershire, Northamptonshire & Nottinghamshire played a singles stableford, with 10 of the 12 scores counting to determine who would win the Shield. Unfortunately, Derbyshire were unable to attend this year.

Much fun ensued with all enjoying the format and hospitality of Beedles Lake.

Leicestershire won with 329 points followed by Nottinghamshire, 304 points & Northants, 288 points.

36 Ladies enjoyed a wonderful meal after the match and much banter and laughter could be heard.

I am pleased to say that the unanimous decision was that the Trophy event will continue each year. The format will remain the same, future venue to be decided at committee.

President's Day Thursday 22nd June 2023

On a very hot day 76 ladies, from 20 clubs, played in the Presidents Day AM-AM competition at Rutland Water Golf Club. The drawn pairs provide a great opportunity to play with ladies from other clubs and make new friendships.

With a two-tee start all the teams were able to tee off in just over an hour. Our President Pam Hall welcomed and saw ladies off from the first tee and she thanked two past presidents, Jenny Martin and Glenda Yeldham for their help on the 10th tee and throughout the day.

Rutland Water is Pam’s home club, so we were lucky enough to be able to use the marquee, which was decorated in celebration of our 50th anniversary, where a fantastic buffet was served after the golf. The two-tee start meant that ladies were able to sit down for their meal almost together and we were able to conduct the presentation of prizes on the day.

The winners of the President’s quaiches scoring a fabulous 83 points were Andrena Porter of Lutterworth and Sue Barker of Whetstone (who were also in the winning team last year) accompanied by Judy Matharu of Lutterworth and Caroline Butcher of Rutland Water. Well done Ladies.

Thanks go to the Greens staff who presented the course, particularly the bunkers, in great condition after the recent thunderstorms, the catering and bar staff and the hospitality of Rutland Water

Thank you, Ladies, for all your support.

Spring Meeting Monday 24th April 2023

The Spring Meeting held on 24th April at Kibworth GC was well attended with 33 teams entered in the 3-ball alliance competition for the Wendy Johnson trophy.

The weather in the run up to the event was very wet and unfortunately 3 teams had to drop out as buggies were not allowed on the course. This did not stop one group of ladies who with a combined age of 244 played 18 holes returning with a respectable score on the day, well done!

The weather on the day was fair and much better than forecasted. However, it was decided to give full handicap allowance as the course was playing long and despite the valiant attempts and an early start by the green keepers they had not been able to mow the rough and the final scores were reflective of this.

The winners of the Wendy Johnson Trophy were Jo Pepper, Cathy Russell and Suzanne Smith of Cosby GC with 67 points.

2nd Place: Sue Clarke, Sara Glover and Pam Hall of Rutland Water GC with 66 points

3rd Place: Lynda Bramley, Lynda Dunne and Sue Young of Beedles Lake GC with 65 points

4th Place: Julia Dunkley, Chris O'Neill and Ruth Palmer of Kibworth GC with 65 points (OCB)

5th Place: Helen Adams-Brown of Hinckley, Anne Knight and Judy Matharu of Lutterworth with 64 points

Nearest the pin on the 9th Loraine Washington of Scraptoft
Nearest the pin on the 15th Pam Hall of Rutland Water

The President Pam Hall thanked the organiser Julie Dawson for an extremely well organised day and also the committee who all assisted on the day.

The two starters Jeff and Phil were each given a sleeve of balls as a thank-you on the day.
