Spring Meeting Monday 25th April 2022

What a wonderful day we had at Luffenham Heath Golf Club for our Spring Meeting on 25th April. We were made so welcome by the club and especially Lady Captain Helen. Thank you to Luffenham Heath for hosting our event and to everyone involved in making the day run so smoothly. The course was a picture with the gorse in full bloom and, as always, a pleasure to play. Thank you to the greens staff.

The food prepared by the catering staff was delicious and the office staff couldn't have been more helpful, with manager Tom even putting the flag up for us so that it billowed out proudly all day.

Well done to the winning team from Kirby Muxloe which consisted of Lady Captain Anna Taylor, Diane Wood and Julie Dawson. The full list of prize winners can be seen by going to Trophy Events Results.

As usual everyone seemed to really enjoy their day and the camaraderie amongst our association members was palpable. Thank you all for your support and I look forward to meeting up with at the rest of this year's events, not least my President's Day at Ruddington Grange on 23rd June.

AGM & Luncheon Held on 10th February 2022

President Helen Buckingham and the members of the Council were delighted to welcome 137 ladies from 22 clubs to the AGM & Luncheon at Devonshire Place on Thursday 10th February 2022.

There was an air of excitement as ladies gathered together, finally able to greet each other face to face. The buzz of conversation and smiles on faces was a joy to behold.

The meal was excellent and enjoyed by all and this was followed by an efficiently run AGM that took just 35 minutes to conclude all the business.

After delivering her report President Helen Buckingham read out a poem that she had written which was very well received. Helen is well known for her witty poetry.

The other reports followed and trophies were presented to the winners of the President’s Quaiches and for the Renee Shipman trophy.

County President Karen Bonser attended the luncheon and thanked the Association for their donations that were made by BACS to the County Ladies and County Junior Girls.

All the members of the Council extend a warm welcome to Julie Dawson of Kirby Muxloe who came forward at the AGM to volunteer to join them on the Council for the coming two years.

The AGM Minutes will be posted to the website after they have been approved at the first committee meeting. This is usually scheduled during March.

We wish all members of the Association good health and happy golfing through 2022.

2021 Captain and Vice-Captain Event at Hinckley GC

This event is organised for the incumbent Lady Captain to bring their Vice-Captain along to meet their peers in a social environment before they take up office. If the Lady Captain is not available then another member of the Association is welcome to accompany the Vice-Captain to this event.

The day is organised with tea or coffee on arrival before playing 9 holes of golf followed by lunch at the host golf club. The representatives from each club are paired into a team of four to play in a 9-hole AM AM. Tee times and teams were advised in advance.

This year twenty-four ladies from twelve clubs enjoyed a sunny nine holes at Hinckley Golf Club.

The winners of the 9-hole AM AM for 2021 were:
Sue Turton and Janet Hartley-Byng from Ullesthorpe with Chris Hyde and Joyce Calow from Birstall with 43 points.

Jacket potatoes on Hinckley’s new patio allowed socialising time for ladies to share ideas on captaincy and to get to know new faces.
A welcome and information on what we as an Association offer to members was given by President Helen and merchandising products were available for ladies to buy or order.

Thank you to Hinckley Golf Club for making us so welcome and to those ladies who attended. We hope you will all join us next year for our events.

2021 Autumn Meeting at Market Harborough GC

Our Autumn Meeting 4BBB for the Renee Shipman Trophy was held on 6th September at Market Harborough Golf Club on a hot late summer’s day.

Umbrellas for shade and plenty of liquids were the order of the day. We also had to contend with bullocks on the 9th green, a lone swan waddling across the first fairway as we were starting and a red kite riding a thermal over the 4th green.  The swan seemed very confident that it wouldn’t get hit! The joys of country life!

A good score of 43 by Annette O’Meara and Di Thornton of Charnwood Forest GC secured 1st place and the Renee Shipman Trophy

Other placings were

2nd Julia Dunkley & Ruth Palmer of Kibworth with 40 points (on count back)

3rd Julia Booth & Ann Martin of Charnwood Forest with 40 points (on count back)

4th Marian Overlunde & Sarah Bowler of Lingdale with 39 points

5th Julia Holley & Trish Formoy of Kibworth with 38 points

As there were three sets of winners in attendance at the end of the day it was decided to make a presentation to those present. The other prizes will be posted and the trophy will be presented to the winners at a later date.

Many thanks to Market Harborough Golf Club for making us so welcome and to the committee for their hard work in making the day run smoothly.

Thank you to all the ladies who supported this event in what has been another very difficult year. It was a pleasure to see you all.
