Coronavirus Impacts Events Planned in 2020

With the lockdown and social distancing restrictions imposed during 2020 most of the events planned for the year have had to be cancelled. This includes: both the Spring and Autumn meetings, President's Day, the matches against Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire and the County Vets.

Most of the matches have been rescheduled into 2021 with trophy events being moved into 2022 as the major events for next year had already been scheduled at other clubs.

Unfortunately the Bridge Driive has also been cancelled due to the pandemic.

This has been very disappointing, however the safety of our members was our priority.

Spring Meeting Message April 2020

Our President, Glenda Yeldham and all of the committee members hope that everyone is keeping well and fit at this difficult time

This year has definitely had more downs than ups as far as our golf is concerned.  At the beginning of the year golf courses were closed due to the torrential rain and now they are all closed because of the lockdown. One good thing, by the time we are allowed to play, the courses should be in excellent condition.

Today should be our Spring Meeting at Luffenham Heath Golf Club when players would have been competing in a 3 ball alliance for the Wendy Johnson Trophy.  Unfortunately due to Coronavirus this has had to be cancelled but we are grateful to Luffenham Heath for agreeing to host this event in April 2022 (as the spring and autumn events for 2021 have already been booked in the diary).

Given the recent beautiful weather that we have experienced, today is a little disappointing being slightly cooler but it is still dry. We are in desperate need of some rain for the gardens and golf courses, which we wouldn’t have anticipated saying a few weeks ago.

We are monitoring the situation for future events having already postponed the match against Nottinghamshire until next year. Again we are very pleased that Longcliffe golf club has agreed to host the match in 2021.

We will keep you all updated with future events via our website, as and when things are firmed up.

We hope at this difficult time you are finding plenty to keep you occupied, perhaps there should be a gardening competition instead as we are sure all of you who have a garden will have spent a lot of time getting it into pristine condition.

The priority for everyone is to stay safe. We send our condolences to anyone who may have been affected by this terrible virus and our thanks to those still working to keep us all going.

In the scheme of things, it would be nice to play golf but this may be a long way off. For now, please just take care and stay safe.

2020 AGM & Luncheon

The AGM and luncheon held at Devonshire Place on Thursday 13th February 2020 was attended by 158 ladies.

Ladies were welcomed to Devonshire Place by President Glenda Yeldham and Vice-President Helen Buckingham to attend the luncheon followed by the 47th AGM.

The number of ladies attending the event was down slightly from last year however the feedback from those attending the event was very good.  Jill Preston of Scraptoft gave Grace before the ladies tucked into their meal of, a very tasty fish pie or vegetarian meal option that was also enjoyed by the ladies. Desserts or cheese and biscuits were eagerly tucked away and the service provided by staff was very efficient. Mrs Yeldham has written to Devonshire Place thanking them.

Rachel Miller, the lady captain at Longcliffe kindly offered to take photographs.

The Annual General Meeting started at 2pm with a minutes silence for six members who had passed away during the year. Best wishes were sent to ladies who were in poor health.

This year we said farewell to Mary Jarvis as Treasurer after eight years and she will be missed.  Mary was presented with garden centre vouchers for plants for her new garden for her service to the Association. Mrs Yeldham gave a warm welcome to Lyneve McLoughlin who had been on the Council for one year but has now volunteered to take over the role of Treasurer for the foreseeable future.

The committee for 2020 were duly elected the new members were welcomed to the Council and thanks were given to those who stepped down after their two year term of office.

Karen Bonser, County President was presented with a cheque for the County Ladies and the Junior Girls.  Ms Bonser thanked all the members of the Association for their support throughout the year. A letter to the Association was also received from the County President following this event.

There was an amendment to the constitution to allow past Lady Captains who were no longer a member of a Golf Club to become a Social Member.  This entitles them to play in the Bridge Drive and attend the AGM.  This was passed, all ladies agreeing the change.

A vote of thanks was proposed by Ann Davies of Willesley and the meeting closed at 2.30pm.

Coronavirus

Our President Glenda Yeldham and the committee send their best wishes to members during these unprecedented times.

We are thinking of you and hope that you are all staying safe and well, whilst you are confined in your self-isolation at home.

Our first fixtures of the year have been cancelled and we are maintaining a watching brief for future events and matches. These will take place only when it is safe for us to do so.

We will continue to keep you updated via our website.
